Fully qualified Nursing care is provided in the
extension which has been sympathetically added to the rear of the Victorian Mansion. Although less grand, all
rooms have en - suite facilities and are furnished and decorated to an equally
high standard. The resultant effect being a cosy and homely environment. Here,
as in all of Oaken Holt, individuals are encouraged to bring their favourite
pieces of furniture, pictures and ornaments etc. The comfort of having personal
possessions around assists greatly to ease the difficulties that can occur
during the transitional periods of moving and settling into a new home.
As elsewhere, the policies of Oaken Holt Care are carried through into this section of the complex. The fine standard of clinical care and the emphasis placed on choice, independence, privacy and dignity combine to assist in promoting a good quality of life. Experience has shown that contentment and a sense of well-being dramatically enhances a person's physical condition.
Prior to a person making Oaken Holt their home, the Nursing Manager, who heads the team of Nurses and carers, will visit the prospective Resident in order to make initial contact and to assess as fully as possible specific medical and personal requirements. Following this and in consultation with the Resident , family and anyone who has been directly involved with the on going care of the Resident, a care plan is written and carefully adhered to by the Nursing team. Care plans are reviewed and updated on a regular basis thus ensuring correct care at all times. Relatives are actively encouraged to participate in not only care planning but in the day to day routines of their relations lives and in consequence there are no restrictions on visiting.
The realisation, for the majority, that they require the support of twenty four hour Nursing care and are no longer able to cope within the surroundings that have been their home for many years is probably the hardest and most distressing decision that they have ever faced. In addition it is one that materialises at an age when any form of change is far more difficult to adjust to. Every endeavour is made to assist with this delicate and often traumatic transition. It is hoped that with correct care and understanding from the staff that ultimately every Resident will look on Oaken Holt and in particular their own accommodation as home.
